Corrugated Containers and the Importance of Renewability

There is a common misconception about the state of corrugated containers and the industry as a whole. The general public believes that logging and paper companies are tearing down large percentages of Canadian forests without replanting and thinking of the future of their respective industries. Brown Packaging manufactures corrugated containers and we are focused on maintaining renewability through the production of corrugated containers.

Currently, our industry harvest roughly 0.5 percent of all Canadian forests per year and we are expected to replant or practice renewable methods of harvesting. In comparison, forest fires burn twice as much forest, while beetles consume 14 times more. In addition, 93 percent of harvesting occurs on crown land, which comes with strict regulations and renewal standards.

Corrugated containers require a conscious industry that focuses on renewable trends in order to provide consumers with access to the products and services they require. Corrugated containers are far too important in our modern society. Without corrugated containers, companies would struggle to find cost-effective ways to ship their goods.

While harvesting methods are always being improved upon, the industry has also worked hard to encourage recycling initiatives. Most corrugated containers are recyclable, and with proper education, the statistics are showing that recycling trends are on the rise as the public becomes increasingly aware of the need to recycle and to do their part in ensuring the renewability of organic resources.
