How to Seal Corrugated Containers the Easy Way

Are you planning on shipping something valuable? Are you afraid that it will get damaged through the shipping process? These are valid concerns. However, they can be avoided if you learn to seal your corrugated containers properly. While it is not rocket science, there are less effective ways to seal corrugated containers that will leave them more prone to damage caused by rough handling. Never expect that your shipping company will handle your box with the care it deserves. In fact, most shipping companies work on tight schedules and this translates into shoddy work by individuals who are rushing to meet deadlines. Relax, Brown Packaging is going to teach you how to seal your corrugated containers the right way.

Grab your tape. If you have a handheld tape dispenser, you’re already ahead of the game. Alright, so you have your corrugated container in front of you, loaded with your items and it looks pretty sturdy. First off, pack your box with any stuffing materials (like bubble wrap or paper). Fold the two smaller flaps inside, followed by the two larger flaps. The box will appear closed except for the tiny slit which you will tape shut. Take your roll of tape and seal the entire length of the flaps, allowing for an overhang at the edges. This overhang increases the durability of the seal and ensures that the contents of your corrugated container will remain inside the box. Repeat this for the other side of the box. If you are packing heavy items, consider using extra layers of tape in an effort to ensure that the box will stay sealed. Remember, more tape is better than less tape. The goal is for your items to arrive in the proper condition and a few extra pennies in tape can save you a lot of wasted time, money, and effort. Even the best corrugated containers are susceptible to poor taping.
